Helping the seniors of Jo Daviess and Stephenson Counties in Illinois maintain their
independence and quality of life is the mission of the Senior Resource Center.
At the Senior Resource Center we believe in your right to independence and self-determination.
The Stephenson County Senior Center is a multi-service agency and designated focal
point, providing programs and services to persons age 55+ and the caregivers to help
them maintain their independence and quality of life.

Tax Season Cometh
The new year is fast approaching and we are again busy preparing for the upcoming tax season.
We’ll begin accepting appointments on Tuesday, January 17th and begin seeing clients on Tuesday, January 31st. We will see clients from Tuesday through Thursday each week until April 13th. Exact schedules for each site will be set next month.
This we will open sites at the Senior Resource Center in Freeport, in Stockton, in Lena and in Orangeville.
Prairie State Legal Services offers free legal services for low income persons and those over 60 who have serious civil legal problems and need legal help to solve them.
The mission is "to provide or coordinate the delivery of high quality legal services to low-income individuals, families and groups."
Throughout its history, Prairie State has focused on providing legal services to the most vulnerable groups in our society, including the poor, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
With more than 70,000 older adults living in the services area, the program will focus its services on aiding older adults in the greatest social and economic need. Services include: Aiding nursing home residents with disputes regarding discharge or care; legal help for homebound seniors who are facing the loss of services needed to remain safe in the community; legal representation of older adults who have been abused or exploited by others; legal counsel for older adults who have difficulties making ends meet due to debts, including medical debts; denials of government income benefits; and many other problems.
Ms. Samuel will be taking appointments at the Senior Resource Center the first Friday of every month, starting Friday, January, 6, 2011. To schedule an appointment, please call Renee at the Senior Resource Center at 815.235.9777 ext. 240.
